HERE'S WHAT YOU GET:
All Day In-Person Workshop with Mary Lynn Michal (6 hours of instruction)
Spend a day immersed in the craft and fun of playing the hammered dulcimer with others, guided by Mary Lynn Michal. After playing in the symphony for decades, ML really knows how to listen and play in a group. You will take home strategies that will help you improve as a musician—whether you are playing by yourself, with a playing partner, in a small group, or even in a jam.
This is a class participation workshop (don't be scared!!) At times during the day, you will have the opportunity to play with 2-4 people with ML coaching. No one will be put on the spot. Participation in small group sessions is encouraged but not required. You will learn a lot while watching other groups playing and being coached.
Afraid to play in front of others? Don't worry, you're in good company - we'll be talking about performance anxiety and ways to minimize it during the day.
Bonuses included in your workshop fee:
Attend a live one-hour Zoom Class (recording available) on Sunday, September 17 at 3PM EDT (value: $20) We will learn a tune in advance! Everyone attending the workshop will have this one tune in common.

FAQ
What should I bring?
Bring your dulcimer (already tuned!), all of your hammers, your damper pedal if you have one. Encourage your playing partner(s) to register and set up next to you.
What about lunch?
Lunch fixings will be available on site for a small charge, or bring your own. (Details to follow)
What tunes will we work on?
We'll use the tune we learn over Zoom, as well as tunes from the Sandbridge repertoire, the NC Jam Group tune list, and others you will suggest (we'll send out a quick questionnaire before the workshop). If you come with a playing partner or two, bring a tune that you play together to work on.
"I only play solo"
Everything you learn here will help you in your solo practice. Do you have an intro for the tunes you play? Have you ever lost your way while playing solo? Forgotten to play dynamically?
"I hate jamming"
This workshop is not just about jamming, even though everything you learn here will help you when you find yourself in a jam.*
*LOL... in a jam at a jam.
